Attesting Turkish Documents for the UAE

Before you can use a document that was issued within Turkey in the UAE, it will need to be attested. Whether it is a birth, marriage or death certificate, an educational qualification or in fact any other personal or company document that originates from Turkey, every document will need to go through the attestation process before it can be officially used in the UAE.

How does it work?

Attesting Turkish documents to be used in the UAE can be a highly complex matter. Depending upon the type of document, which language it has been written in, as well as which authority it needs to be presented to, there are multiple requirements that are needed which change from document to documents. The following sections lay out a general example of the processes that may be needed. However, you are advised to contact us to confirm the specific requirements needed for your own situation.

Translation into English or Arabic

The Turkish authorities will only process documents written in Turkish, however, as the UAE Embassy in Turkey only accepts documents written in either English or Arabic, all documents will first require translation. Once completed, the translator or translation company will then swear an affidavit to confirm that the translation is accurate. Translation is not required in the case of a dual-language Turkish/Arabic or Turkish/English document.

Certification by Turkish Notary

Once the translation has been completed, it is then presented to a Notary Public in Turkey for their notarial stamp. During this process, the notary will certify that the translation company has attested to the accuracy of the translation and stamp it accordingly.

Turkish Legalisation

Once a document has been notarised, it can then be presented to the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs for legalisation. During this process, the officials will certify that the Notary Public is recognised by their office and stamp the translation accordingly.

UAE Embassy Attestation

The final step in Turkey is to have the document stamped, known as attested, by the UAE Embassy in Istanbul. During this stage an official UAE-government sticker and seal is applied to the document. This confirms to the authorities in the UAE that the document has completed all the required steps in Turkey.

MoFA Attestation (UAE)

Once the document has reached the UAE, it requires a further attestation stamp by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the UAE which validates that your document has been processed correctly in Turkey. Some employers make arrangements to handle this for you, so you should check whether this needs to be completed by you or not.

Translation from English into Arabic

In certain circumstances, your document may also require translation into Arabic. Again, your employer may handle this for you so best to check. If required, the whole document and its relevant stamps are translated from English into Arabic by a recognised certified translator. Once the translation has been done, then everything has been completed to make it fully useable within the UAE.

Attestation Notes

  • Arabic translation is usually required for use in all emirates other than Dubai, as well as if the document is to be used within one of the Dubai Free Zone authorities including (but not limited to) the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) and the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC).
  • Birth, marriage or death certificates can usually be processed on a scanned copy of the document. However in some cases, the UAE Embassy may require the original to be presented alongside the translation. This is very rare though.
